Because of you, they came from London and Oakland, from New York and Ohio. They took planes or buses, cars or trains. They barreled down highways or iron tracks, soared over the winking lights of cities at night. They passed high-rises and golf courses and bridges for the pleasure of your company and to celebrate your life.
They were a surprise—first granddaughter and grandson, then son and daughter-in-law. Next the daughter and son-in-law, and three more grandsons. They joined you and the woman you love most, your wife and partner. Everyone together, all for you.
They raised glasses. They made toasts. They joined you for a meal and posed for pictures. They watched, through photos, as you grew into a life they now know all too well: A life of love and kindness, of generosity and service, of thoughtfulness and the spreading of joy. All these parts of you, they are sustaining. They are inspiring. They are family.
Family. Your legacy, and one that will forever grow to encompass friends and spouses, churches and employers, pets and homes. Thinking of you, they remember that every day is a new opportunity to better yourself and the world around you, and that every person is a new opportunity to love.
When they join friends for food or drink, they will think of you and the love you shared. They will share that love with those they love. It will go on and on. Your love will never stop.
You have lived, and well, for ninety years. And in those you love, you will live again, for ninety years and hundreds more.
